The IHSA soccer sectionals opened up. At Effingham, the host Hearts advanced to their first sectional finals with a 4-0 win over Carlinville. They will play Rochester after their 4-0 win over Teutopolis.
At Father McGivney, Massac County fell to the hosts in penalty kicks 7-6 to lose 3-2 to the Griffins. The Patriots were tied at the end of regulation and both overtime periods. Columbia is also in that championship game after their 5-1 win over Alton Marquette.
In 2a sectional semifinals today at Mascoutah, Chatham Glenwood will play Waterloo at 4:30 followed by Althoff and Triad at 6:30.
