Central City will be holding a special meeting on November 6 at 9:00 a.m. to discuss how to utilize a $1.4 million Local Project Funding grant to replace damaged storm drains along major roads in the village. Public works manager Shane Swartzlander says this work will be necessary to reduce flooding that commonly occurs in heavy rain conditions. Village officials already have a clear idea of which locations need the work and some engineering work has already been completed. The special meeting will fully lay out the planned improvements.
Mayor Neely Reed called attention to a need to review the village’s existing ordinances to ensure that none are outdated and all are being followed. Reed said that when he became mayor, he came in without a sense of how the village was supposed to be run. He hopes that this review will show any updates or clarifications that need to be made to ordinances to keep things clear for future village officials. Reed says he has already begun reviewing ordinances on his own and encouraged board members to help him with the task.
The village approved the purchase of 21 U.S. flags for a total cost of $714. The village considered purchasing 44 flags, but Reed is still weighing options for which manufacturer to purchase the flags from. The 21 flags were approved for purchase immediately because 21 flags in good condition are necessary for the village’s Veteran’s Day display.
Police Chief Jamie Ramsey said that solicitors have again become a problem, with groups of solicitors appearing in neighborhoods and acting “aggressive and confrontational.” Central City has an ordinance in place requiring solicitors to purchase a permit for $25 per person per day to operate within Central City, a requirement Ramsey says the solicitors are currently ignoring. City officials say they are aware of the issue and are looking to resolve it.
Central City renewed its insurance coverage through the Risk Management Association, accepting an annual premium of $43,148.
The Central City Fall Village Clean Up was scheduled for November 17 through November 21.
