Several contested races have developed in the Republican primary following the first day of filing at the State Board of Elections in Springfield.

Four Republicans have filed for the open circuit wide judgeship in the 4th judicial district.   They are Wes Gozia of Salem, Phillip Givens of Louisville, Aaron Jones of Effingham and Brenda Mathis of Ramsey.

A Republican primary will also take place in the 109th legislative district where incumbent Charlie Meier is being challenged by Zachary Meyer of Aviston.  The district includes Washington and Clinton Counties.  In the 116th District, incumbent Dave Severen of Benton is being challenged by Angela Evans of Sesser.

No one filed on the first day for 110th District State Representative, but Blaine Wilhour says he’ll be seeking another term.

In the 12th Congressional District, Republican Mike Bost of Murphysboro and Democrat Julie Portier of O’Fallon have filed.

Republican John Consolino of Salem has filed to run for Regional Superintendent of Schools for Clinton, Jefferson, Marion, and Washington Counties.   Current Regional Superintendent of Schools Matt Renaud is not seeking re-election.

All Statewide offices from Governor, Secretary of State, Comptroller, and Treasurer are also up for election in the March primary election.
