Today the Salem Wildcats soccer program will play in its first ever regional championship game as they travel to Rochester to take on the powerhouse hosts. The winner will advance to next week’s Effingham Sectional to play the winner between Newton and TTown. Match time at 11am today as Salem enters at 19-3.
Also in 1a regional finals, Murphysboro hosts Massac County and Staunton hosts Effingham.
In 2a, Althoff takes on Carbondale at Marion, Triad will host Highland and Mascoutah will take on the hosts at Waterloo.
Last night in 1a, Carlinville earned their 2nd straight upset as they knocked off 2nd seed Litchfield in their regional final after beating 3rd seed Hillsboro in their semifinal match. They advance to play the winner of Effingham and Staunton in next week’s sectionals in Effingham. Father McGivney won their title over Lebanon 7-1, Columbia shutout Freeburg 2-0.
