A 44-year-old Salem man was formally charged in Marion County Court on Monday following a weekend vehicular hijacking.

Rodrelle Sanders of West Church of West Church in Salem was charged with Class X  offenses of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon and possession of a stolen vehicle.  He was also charged with a felon in possession of a weapon and aggravated battery in a public place.  Sanders is scheduled to appear in court on the charges Monday afternoon.

Sanders allegedly attacked his neighbor in the Salem Walmart parking lot after she agreed to give him a ride to the store where she worked.  The alleged victim was taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of facial injuries, where she was punched.  A homemade taser device was also used against her.

Her abandoned vehicle was found Saturday afternoon on Church Road near Route 37.  The alleged victim had left her phone in the vehicle, and it was pinged to learn its location.  Sanders was arrested while walking in that same area early Sunday morning after a nearby property owner had picked up a man walking in his woods on a trail cam.
