The Rick’s Chapel AME Zion Church in Centralia celebrated its oldest living member this weekend and presented her with a significant lifetime honor.

Frances Carter, who recently turned 103 years old, was recognized during a special service for her decades of dedication to the church community.   In conjunction with the regional AME Zion leadership, she was also officially named a Lay Council Life Member.

The distinguished honor was personally bestowed upon her by the Suthern Illinois Lay Council President, Julius Flagg.

Flagg says Mrs. Carter is a living testament to faith, perseverance, and the deep-rooted strength of his congregation.  He said her life is an inspiration to everyone at Rick’s Chapel and they are thrilled to celebrate this momentous occasion and recognize her with the honor of Lay Council Life Membership.
