Some of the heaviest rain from the cold front that crossed the country on Saturday and early Sunday morning fell in South Central Illinois.

The Centralia Water Plant recorded 4.72 inches for the 24 hour period ending at seven Sunday morning.  It has been so dry, the rain didn’t even fill Raccoon Lake or result in any gates to be opened to get rid of excess water.

The Salem Water Treatment Plant recorded 3.96 inches of rain for the 24-hour period ending at seven Sunday morning.  Water was running over the spillway of Salem Reservoir by 9.8 inches at one point, but was back down to 6.5 inches over the spillway by seven Sunday morning.  A flood watch is issued for Town Creek at 18 inches over the spillway.

The storm system resulted in a severe thunderstorm warning in Jefferson County Saturday afternoon and for Wayne County around six-thirty Sunday morning.   No storm damage has been reported.
