Freeburg’s Gentry Brentlinger took the opening kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown and the Midgets would never trail as they would hand Salem their 6th loss of the year, 45-18. Freeburg would also get 4 rushing touchdowns on the night from 4 different runners as they spread their offense around. Salem was led by junior tailback Trey Clark and receiver Madden Thompson. Clark rushed 34 times for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns. Thompson caught 5 balls for 101 yards including a 57 yards touchdown catch. The Cats turned the ball over 2 times and had a hard time stopping Freeburg’s offense all evening. Salem’s season ends next week when they travel to Trojan Hill to take on Charleston. This was the Cats final Cahokia Conference football game, as they will play in the SI River to River – Ohio Division next year.
Salem heads to 1-7 Charleston next week for their Senior Night after the Trojans lost to Mahomet Seymour last night 49-0.
Breese Central claimed sole possession of this year’s Cahokia Conference title with their blowout win at Columbia 41-6. Roxana has kept Wood River winless and scoreless on the season with their 55-0 victory in the Refinery Bowl. The Shells are playoff eligible while Wood River has been outscored 452-0 this year.
