The Centralia Orphans trailed arch rival Mt Vernon 44-20 at the halftime break at Evers Field. Those who left at halftime, missed one of the best comeback’s you’ll see as the Orphans defense held the Rams scoreless in the last 2 quarters, and Will Stanton scored from 8 yards out with 52 seconds left complete the comeback. The Rams had the ball in the finals seconds, but their pass was intercepted by Kenny Bratton and the Orphans improve to 6-2 as they win their final game in the South 7 as they will move to the Cahokia Conference next year.
Effingham knocked off Mattoon 36-16 to win their 4th game. They will travel to Centralia for their Senior Night next week needing a win over the 6-2 Orphans.
