The Salem Grade School Board heard a proposal from its tech director Thursday night to replace Windows-based computers used by the staff with Chromebooks at the end of this school year.
Salem Grade School Superintendent Dr. Leslie Foppe says there are several good reasons for moving that direction.
“A big difference for the district is security, but also the cost,” Foppe said. “There’s a huge cost saving for not only the devices, but also the licenses and the servers. We wouldn’t need as many servers… For the students, they already use Chromebooks, so it’s more for the teachers adjusting from what we’ve had to a larger Chromebook.”
The board will be asked to make their final decision on the changeover at an upcoming meeting after meetings with teachers.
In other action, the board renewed its worker’s compensation through Imming Insurance and its Cyber Liability through Dimond Brothers. The cost will be able six percent higher than the current school year.
The board okayed two cafeteria workers changing position. Katrina Dial will now be fulltime and Lori Pokojski part-time.
