The Marion County Board’s Finance Committee continues to work on the budget for the next fiscal year.
Board Chair Steve Whritenour says the committee has added $100,000 to the budget for an executive assistant that would help to better coordinate county board business. Whritenour says having the money in the budget would allow for the board to move forward on creating the position anytime during the upcoming fiscal year.
He reports the budget deficit is currently at $716,000, less than half the $1.5 million deficit they were facing at this time last year in the budgeting process. The committee is now looking for areas where cutbacks can be made.
