A fire extinguisher was used to keep a fire down that broke out Thursday in a combine while being used in the fall harvest by Heistand Farms on Brubaker Road a mile west of the Kinmundy Road in rural Alma.
Kinmundy-Alma Fire Chief Kevin Day says the fire broke out in the wiring with a fire extinguisher used to keep the fire down until firemen arrived. As a result, the blaze never spread to the field and the non-electrical part of the combine was not damaged.
However, the wiring damage kept the combine from starting.
There were no injuries.
