Centralia’s animal control officer has resigned to take another job.

City Manager Galen Mahle says he has ‘feelers out’ for a replacement while at the same time meeting with Marion County Board Chair Steve Whritenour to once again discuss the two working together on animal control.  Mahle says right now Centralia has the place, in their animal control facility, while the county has the person, with its animal control officer.

In the meantime, Centralia will lean on the county’s animal control officer for animal problems.   Centralia will allow the county to take any city dogs picked up by the county to the Centralia Animal Pound.

Mahle says the Centralia animal control facility is currently under the management of Community Development Director Gayla Harding and a dedicated group of volunteers who make sure the animals are fed and cared for.

The county board voted to make a bid on purchase of the Salem Animal Control facility at its last meeting, but will have further disucssion at its next meeting on October 28th.   If Salem sells their facility, they would like to locate animal control closer to town.
