Central City Police, the 33-year-old driver of a motorcycle, faces multiple tickets after a high-speed chase and crash through the east part of Centralia late Thursday night.
Adam Holzhausen of North Douglas lost control of his bike as he tried to avoid police coming towards him after going down the cul-de-sac at the end of Orchard Drive. He reportedly went into the grass and hit a trash can, which threw both him and his passenger, 28-year-old Robin Sanders of the same address, off the bike and onto the ground.
Sanders was taken to the SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital and immediately flown to a St. Louis Hospital.
Holzhausen was tased at the scene due to his actions and initially declined medical treatment. However, after being taken to the Centralia Police station for booking on charges, he asked for medical help. He was also taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital and then flown to a St. Louis Hospital. Central City Police Chief Jamie Ramsey says both were later released and have returned to Centralia.
Holzhausen was ticketed for DUI, aggravated DUI, reckless driving, no insurance, disobeying five stop signs, and speeding.
Ramsey said a Central City officer tried to stop Holzhausen after he spotted him after Holzhausen had led Centralia Police on a high speed chase that had terminated just a few minutes earlier due to the speed involved.
