The Centralia City Council Tuesday night will be asked to support a 12-year extension of the downtown TIF 3 district.

The Centralia Railroad Corridor Redevelopment Plan TIF #3 was first put into place in 2003 and expanded in 2014.  City Manager Galen Mahle says many notable projects have been made possible and the project area has begun to see improvements that make the extension necessary and beneficial to the attraction of new business and retention of existing businesses in the downtown area.

The council will also be asked to approve an ordinance to convey property at 611 South Pine to Centralia High School for construction of a new two-to-three-bedroom home by the construction class.  The class is currently finishing up work at a home at 330 Melrose that was also on a lot donated by the city.

The council will be asked to approve a $16,000 advertiser agreement with Outfront Media for a Tourism Billboard Campaign on I-64 in the East St. Louis area.   The money will come from a tourism marketing grant from the state.

A resolution to close the South Locust Street improvement project from East 17 to East 3rd will come before the council to satisfy the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The council will honor Fire Department Lieutenant Cory Kleiboeker for 25 years of service and Telecommunicator Scott Towler for 10 years of service.

The meeting is being held at 6 pm on Tuesday at city hall due to Columbus Day on Monday being a city holiday.
