The Salem Wildcats defense was great all night long, but Columbia took advantage of a kicking mistake in the 4th quarter and pulled out a 7-6 win over the Cats on Senior Night at Jim Finks Field.  Trey Clark scored Salem’s only touchdown in the first half, as the defense pitched a shutout for over 3 quarters.  Angel Salgado was great on both sides of the ball but really made his presence felt defensively.  The Cats D only gave up 49 yards of offense in the opening half.  Salem is 2-5 overall and have been eliminated from playoff contention.  They will play their final game ever in the Cahokia Conference next week at Freeburg.  Columbia is 6-1 overall and will play Breese Central next week.

Breese Central is 6-1 as well after beating Roxana 31-20 and Freeburg shutout Wood River.

The Centralia Orphans were blitzed early and often by Cahokia as the Comanches won their 6th game in 7 weeks knocking off visiting Centralia 40-8 in a battle for the top spot in the South Seven.  Centralia is 5-2 overall and suffered their first conference loss.  They will finish league play up next week against rival Mt Vernon in their final football game ever in the South 7.
