On this day in 1996, in the opening game of the American League Championship Series, 12-year-old Jeffrey Maier turned a probable fly-out into a game-tying home run. He reached over the right-field wall at Yankee Stadium, sweeping the ball into the stands with his baseball glove. His catch helped the Yankees win, 5-4 in 11 innings.
