A 40-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested on drug and weapons charges after allegedly battering the driver of a vehicle that hit him in the rear on US 50 East of Odin late Saturday afternoon.
Rodney Moore of Main Street was arrested for armed violence, aggravated battery, possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of 30 to 100 grams of cannabis.
The other driver is identified as 26-year-old Sean Chapman of Decatur.
Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say neither driver required hospital treatment, but a passenger in Moore’s vehicle, 44-year-old Yvonne Hamilton of Parkland Lane in Mt. Vernon, was taken to the hospital for an apparent minor injury.
Reports indicate the Salem canine was brought to the scene due to the odor of cannabis. After the dog alerted to the vehicle for controlled substances, it was searched. A controlled substance, along with cannabis, and a handgun, wwere allegedly found in the vehicle.
Moore was taken to the Marion County Jail to await a decision on final charges and a first appearance in court on Monday.
The crash occurred at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.
