The Salem Wildcat battled at the 14th ranked Olney Tigers yesterday and came away with a hard fought 2-1 playoff like atmosphere to run their record to 14-2.
Olney got on the board first and led 1-0 at the halftime break. That is where the game would be until 15 minutes left in the second half when a corner kick found defenseman Avery Gullion who jumped and buried the shot with his left foot to tie the game.
Then with 8 minutes left and the game tied, Eli Baker launched a free kick from near mid field where an Olney defender got his head on it and it found the back of his own net. The goal goes to Baker who is just 8 goals shy of the state career goal scoring record.
Baker has an amazing 169 career goals chasing Carlos Posada of Crete Monee who scored 177 goals between 2007-2011.
Salem has 5 games left in the regular season and will find out what their post season seed will be on Friday.
