Jefferson Fire officials say a combine caught fire while being used to harvest early Monday evening at the Nellie Barnett property on North Opdyke Lane. The fire spread to five to ten acres of soybeans. The tractor showed a fuel line warning just prior to the fire breaking out. The combine was a total loss. Ewing North and Bluford provided mutual aid assistance.
Earlier in the afternoon, Jefferson Fire was called to a shed fire. The eight-by-eight-foot structure on the Brett burns property in the 8700 block of East Campbell Road in rural Dix was a total loss. The fire was apparently caused by embers from a brush fire the day before that had been check earlier in the day. The fire call came in at 3:20 pm.
