The Marion County Board has entered into another settlement with opioid manufacturers. State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth explained the settlement after a closed session at Tuesday night’s meeting.
“The settlement the board approved tonight is with secondary manufacturers,” Hudspeth said. “Some of the larger entities, such as Purdue Pharma, we’ve previously settled with. The companies tonight have lesser involvement, you might say. Our national consortium of attorneys reached a settlement agreement with them. The total to be distributed amongst all municipalities, counties, and states was 720 million dollars. From that, Marion County will get a very small sliver of it, but I would still expect it to be well into the five figures.”
Hudspeth says most likely Marion County’s share will be around $20,000 to $25,000.
As required by the settlements, the county board is putting the money into a special fund to be used to help those who are the victims of drug abuse.
