The Salem Grade School Board Monday night reviewed test scores taken by students last spring.

Franklin Park Middle School Principal Tyler Lux says they have two staff dedicated to raising English test scores and another working on math scores.  He reported additional help is also being given to this year’s sixth grade class that scored low in both English and Math as fifth graders.  Only 36 percent of the class was proficient in reading and 20 percent in math.

Other Franklin Park English scores ranged from 54 percent proficiency to 82 percent.  Math scores show proficiency of 19 percent among last year’s sixth graders and 27 percent among last year’s 7th and 8th graders at Franklin Park.   Science test results from last year’s fifth grade showed 47 percent rated as proficient and 62 percent in eighth grade.

At Hawthorn School, 47 percent of third graders were proficient in reading, up seven percent from the prior year, and 55 percent were proficient in math.
