The SC Lady Falcons are IESA 1a State softball champions for the first time as they pulled off the feet Saturday night at Champions Field in Normal.  After a wild win in the semifinals where they were down 8-4 before coming all the way back to win 9-8 over Pontiac St Mary’s, SC faced off against undefeated Central A&M.  Coach Alex Phillips, a Salem grad, told WJBD sports that he told his girls the title game was going to come down to who makes the first mistake.  It turns out with the game scoreless in the fifth, A&M made that error that led to SC scoring and holding on for the big trophy.

Effingham brought home 3rd place in the 3a state tournament.  After beating Normal Chiddix 8-2 in the quarterfinal, they fell to Washington Central 6-0 but bounced back to beat Chatham Glenwood in the 3rd place game 14-2.  They finish the year at 19-2.
