Six persons buried in East Lawn Cemetery will be portrayed in this year’s Tales from Eastlawn by the Salem Historic Commission.
The programs are set at four times between 5:30 and 7:45 on both Friday and Saturday nights, October 3rd and 4th. Tickets are $15 a piece and will go on sale Monday morning at 7:30 am at Salem City Hall. They will be available until they are sold out.
Among those featured this year is Adam Bachman, who began a furniture store in the late 1800s. He will be portrayed by Leon Chapman.
Joseph Schwartz was the first pharmacist in Salem. He was also a businessman who started a very large orchard where the Orchard Shopping Center is today. Schwartz will be played by Brad Crow.
Isaac Barr, a Methodist Church Circuit Rider from the mid 1800s, will be played by Payne Barbee.
Long time Salem Band Director Poss Hanes will be portrayed by Alan Phillips.
Mollie Webster, the first Post Mistress in Salem who grew up at the William Jennings Bryan Home with Bryan in the mid 1800s is being played by Karen Short.
Pete Guth, a small fruit farmer who became wealthy after investing in oil during the oil boom and donated to build the current day St. Theresa’s Catholic Church will be portrayed by Nathan Duke.
As in past years, the tours will begin at the Salem Community Activity Center, and travel by golf cart to the East Lawn Cemetery. Proceeds help fund work of the Historical Commission.
