A 32-year-old Salem man has been charged with seven criminal charges in Marion County Court in connection with three early Tuesday morning burglaries.

Slade Thompson of Rogers Street was charged with a burglary to Liberty Appliance on West Main Street as well as a vehicle parked inside the business.  A felony theft charge was added because Thompson took the keys for the vehicle.  The charge was a felony due to a past conviction for burglary.   Thompson was also charged with misdemeanor criminal damage to property for throwing a vacuum sealing machine through a plate glass window.   Salem Police believe Thompson broke the window to get out when he saw lights from a Salem Police car after they received a silent alarm about the burglary.

In a separate case, Thompson is charged with burglary to an outbuilding at a home in the 200 block of Indiana.   He’s also charged with felony theft of an e-bike from the building.   Thompson was riding the bicycle when stopped at Moto Mart about two hours after the Liberty Appliance break-in.

Thompson was also charged in a third case for burglary to an outbuilding at a residence located in the 1000 block of West Main.

Thompson had a public defender appointed to represent him.  A preliminary hearing is set for October 14th.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old Salem man called by Salem Police to Moto Mart to see if the e-bike Thompson was riding was the one he reported stolen earlier in the morning has been charged after becoming angry at another customer and throwing an object at him.  Tyler Lewis is accused of misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct.  A public defender was appointed with a first appearance with counsel on October 2nd.  The stolen e-bike ended up belonging to the resident on Indiana Street.
