Salem Police have added additional counts against 32-year-old Slade Thompson of Rogers Street in Salem as an investigation continues into an early Tuesday morning burglary at Liberty Appliance on West Main.
Police say the theft of an e-bike Thompson was driving at the time he was stopped at the Moto-Mart two hours after the Liberty Appliance break-in was determined to have been taken from a burglary from an outbuilding in the 200 block of Indiana. When the owner reported the bike stolen, they were told it had already been recovered. Police also tracked Thompson to the burglary of another shed at a residence in the 1000 block of West Main. In both cases, Salem Police say items from the Liberty Appliance burglary were left behind.
Salem Police have also added a vehicle burglary charge, as Thompson had entered two vehicles while inside Liberty Appliance. He had originally been charged with burglary and criminal damage. Police discovered the burglary in progress when a silent alarm sounded. After apparently seeing the lights from a squad car Thompson allegedly threw a vacuum device for sealing foods through a plate glass window and then fled on foot through the window.
After reviewing the store video, Thompson was stopped about two hours later at MotoMart because his clothing was the same.
