The Salem Elks Lodge dedicated the new pavilion on the north side of the building Saturday night.

The pavilion was paid for by the Lafenhagen-Smith family who were named the Elk’s Family of the Year for the donation and everything else they have done for the lodge.

Bob Lafenhagen says he wanted to see this project become reality.

“This is something that we tried to do about five years ago and we didn’t get the job done,” Lafenhagen said. “We kept thinking about it… and I decided to go ahead and do it. I’ve been wanting it for years and I know the lodge has. I hope it will help us out on room for chicken Sundays, because we’re going to have a fence around it. It’s a simulated stone vinyl fence, a pretty nice-looking fence.”

The pavilion will have a seating area for around 75 people.

The Elk’s Lodge also honored several other members for their work on behalf of Elk’s projects.  Tony Dial was named Elk of the Year for volunteering his services on all types of projects.  Marilyn Lewis was named Lady Elk of the Year.   Chris Metcalf and Will Bainridge received service awards.
