The Kinmundy Board of Alderman Thursday night decided to wait a year before applying for up to a $600,000 state OSLAD grant for park improvements.
Mayor Angie Diss says Kinmundy has lost its distressed status that would have provided the grant without any city match. Their new rating would make the grant a 50-50 match. Diss says the city doesn’t have the money for the match.
The person helping write the grant indicated that since Kinmundy is near the borderline, they could return to qualifying for 100-percent grants next year.
There is still concern about the condition of the wooden playground equipment in the park. Before the next meeting, the board will look at the equipment to decide if it should be kept for another year or be removed.
Diss is conducting a fundraising campaign of her own to replace the wooden equipment but so far, she has only raised $8,000 of the estimated $30,000 needed.
The board set Halloween Trick or Treat for Friday, October 31st from six to eight pm for those 12 and under. The Kinmundy Christian Church will hold a trunk or treat during the same hours.
The Kinmundy Police Department showed 137 patrol hours between Kinmundy and Alma, with 14 citations issued in Kinmundy and nine in Alma. There was a total of five arrests. There were no reports of vandalism in either community following the problems early this summer.
