Joyce Seger, 92, of Centralia, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, at her home.
Joyce was born on October 3, 1932, in Ellery, Illinois, to Virgil and Ruth (Baker) Odom. She married Leo F. Seger on March 4, 1950, and he preceded her in death on April 25, 2018.
In addition to her husband of 68 years, she is survived by three sons, Douglas Seger of Centralia, Jon Seger and wife Judy of Centralia and Joseph Seger and wife Jacqueline of Highland; one daughter, Mary Connaway and husband Chris of Centralia; seven grandchildren, Jason Seger and wife Tarah, Brittany Corners and husband Blake, Annalise Seger and significant other Benjamin Huels, Alex Seger, Adam Seger, Lucas Connaway and Nicholas Connaway, five great-grandchildren, Garet Seger, Jake Seger, Ian Connaway, Kennedy Connaway and Ava Grace Elliott; sisters, Dorothy Puckett and Brenda Felty and husband George and a sister-in-law, Elsie Seger of Carlyle.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Ruth Odom; her husband, Leo Seger; her sons, Randy and Michael Seger; her sister, Doris Fields; her brother, Gerald Odom; two brothers-in-law, Louis Sonny Seger and Laverne Seger; sisters-in-law, Mildred, Lorraine, Shirley, and Dolly Seger.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia and took pride in her extended family. She loved her plants and flowers and went to the beach in Florida, but most of all, she was devoted to her family and enjoyed being the family historian, keeping track of the family lines.
Mass of Christian burial for Joyce Seger will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia with Father Steve Pautler officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with a prayer service at 4:45 pm, and again on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 9:00 am to 9:45 am at the church before the service. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to the School and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home, 235 N.
