The family that owns the Centralia Sentinel, Salem Times Commoner, Carlyle Union Banner, Washington County News in Nashville, and the Greenville Advocate has sold the newspapers and 11 others to the Paxton Media Group based in Paducah, Kentucky.
The Hoskins family, who owned Better Newspapers, Inc., is selling the newspapers according to a news release from John Cribb of Cribb and Associates, who represented the Hoskins family in the transaction. The terms were not disclosed.
The news release says Better Newspapers, Inc. was founded in 1991 by Greg Hoskins and grew to over 40 publications and radio stations in Illinois and Missouri. The company will still own several publications and radio stations in Illinois and Missouri.
After Greg Hoskins’ death, Scott Hoskins took over as President. He thanked their employees, readers, and the communities they serve for their long-standing support, but he says it is time for their family to move on, and they believe they have found the best steward for the family legacy in Jamie Paxton and Paxton Media Group.
Jamie Paxton says they are excited to add the papers to their portfolio. He says they believe strongly in the value of local newspapers and the vital role they play in the communities that they serve. Paxton says he appreciates the Hoskins family choosing Paxton to be the new stewards of these important community assets.
