Salem will celebrate being named a ‘Gig Certified Community’ and ‘Smart Rural Community’ during a September 10th ceremony at Bryan Memorial Park.
Mayor Nic Farley says the designation is important to the city.
“We’re very blessed to have partners like Wabash Communications that have fiber optics and with that capacity, it allows us to market our area better to potential developers that want to look at a place that has high speed band width.”
Farley says not many communities have the designation.
“There are less than a dozen communities in the state that have this designation, so it really sets us apart when we’re trying to seek those developers and attract companies to move here.”
The program will feature several speakers who will discuss the importance of the high-speed internet service. It is open to the public at ten next Wednesday morning at Shelter 2 near the Band Stage in Bryan Memorial Park.
