The Centralia Police Department successfully conducted occupant protection enforcement effort over Labor Day weekend, resulting in 17 seat belt citations being issued.

The department also announced 12 speeding citations were issued, two for distracted driving, and 17 other citations for miscellaneous offenses.  The patrols also resulted in two fugitives being apprehended, 1 suspended driver being stopped, along with four narcotics arrests, 1 for obstructing identification, and 2 outstanding retail theft cases cleared by arrest.

Centralia Police Lieutenant Steve Whritenour noted through the Labor Day safety campaign, the department helped to make our roads safer and spread the word about the risks of impaired driving and the campaign– ‘It’s Not a Game.

Centralia PD collaborated with other law enforcement agencies and highway safety partners across the state for the Illinois Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High Get a DUI” campaign.

This effort was part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives, funded by federal highway safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
