The Marion County Sheriff’s Department and Salem and Centralia Fire searched for a car reportedly seen driving into Lake Centralia early Monday morning.
A reported eyewitness had called 911 to report a car possibly going into the lake near the Mesa Lane and Levy Road area. A search of the mostly shallow water in the area and for any tracks leading to the water proved unsuccessful. Centralia Fire had brought a boat, but it was never launched.
The search was called off about two hours after it began around 1:45 Monday morning. Authorities believe the call may have been made to draw attention away from another incident the sheriff’s department was handling at the time.
