Centralia city officials came out to Fairview Park on Friday to hold a ribbon cutting for the newly installed playground equipment. The new equipment, which opened for use in May of this year, was funded by an OSLAD grant that city applied for in late 2023. City Manager Galen Mahle said that the city will continue seeking funding to improve Centralia’s parks.

“There are definitely more projects that we want to do at all of our parks,” Mahle said. “You can see if you go around town now, there have been improvements made at Point Park at Raccoon Lake, and obviously this playground and everything that goes along with it here at Fairview. We received a grant that will be funded this year and next for a project in Laura Leake Park and at our council meeting this past Monday the council approved an application for another OSLAD grant for Fairview Park.”

The grant from this year’s application, if improved, would fund a new walking trail in the park, among other items to make the park safer, cleaner, and more enjoyable for visitors.
