Both occupants of a car that ran off I-57 at mile marker 132 north of Kinmundy Thursday morning were airlifted from the scene by Air Evac to St. Louis Hospitals.

The two were both able to crawl out of the car that landed on its wheels after turning over several times after hitting a guard rail and traveling into the median.    Initial information is both are from the Memphis, Tennessee area.

The Air Evac helicopters landed on northbound I-57 to pick up the patients.  As a result, the northbound lanes were closed to traffic for about 40 minutes.

State Police are handling the crash that occurred around eight am.   Reports are not yet available.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Department and Kinmundy-Alma Firemen assisted at the scene.
