A 19-year-old Effingham man declined hospital treatment for injuries sustained in a one vehicle crash late Monday afternoon on I-57 southbound at the IC railroad bridge about three miles north of Salem.
State Police say preliminary information indicates the driver was having tire issues, which caused the car to go off the left side of the road and strike a concrete barrier.
The driver was identified at the scene as Levi Bryant. An Air Evac helicopter was originally called, but was cancelled when Bryant declined any hospital treatment from United Medical Response on the scene.
Traffic on southbound I-57 was down to a single lane on the shoulder until the accident scene was cleared.
Both Salem Fire Protection District and Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted.
The crash was first reported at 4:28 Monday afternoon.
