A malfunctioning extension cord is blamed for starting a fire around the front door of a Centralia home Thursday morning.
Centralia City Firefighters say a passerby spotted the fire burning around the door of the Mark Hamilton home at 603 North Locust Street.
Firemen say the extension cord apparently overheated setting the siding, wooden frame around the door, and an exterior wall on fire. The department got a quick knock down to keep the fire from spreading. They also were able to get a dog out of the home and away from a minor amount of smoke that had filled the residence. The smoke is not expected to cause any lasting damage.
The fire call came in at 6:45 Thursday morning. Since it was at shift change time no additional firefighters had to be called in.
