The Franklin Park couldn’t keep up with Newton in middle school baseball Saturday morning in Salem falling 11-5. Newton got on the board with 4 runs in the top of the first inning. Salem tied the game in the 3rd with 3 runs thanks to a single by Tanner Purintun and a wild pitch. Newton jumped back on top in the sixth with a pair of runs before pulling away with 5 in the seventh.
Dakota Gregg was the tough luck losing pitcher, but only 1 of the five runs given up were earned and he struck out six in five innings of work. Ben Lux and Emit Gibson both doubled and combined for 3 hits on the day with Lux driving in a run. Purintun drove in 2 and Gregg added an RBI.
The Bobcats fall to 2-2 on the young season and are back in action this afternoon at Breese All Saints.
The SC Falcons will travel to Cowden Herrick/Beecher City.
