An out-of-area man died when his car drove into the eastbound rest area of I-64 at the Goshen Road Rest Area in Jefferson County, Friday night, and struck the rear of a semi.
Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse is still trying to notify the family, so no name is yet being released. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The man was alone in the car. The truck driver was sleeping in his rig and was not hurt.
State Police say preliminary information indicates the car entered the rest area entrance ramp, drove off the roadway, and into the rest area parking lot. The entrance to the rest area was closed to all traffic during the investigation.
The Jefferson County Fire Department and Litton’s Ambulance assisted on the scene.
The crash occurred at 9:09 pm.
