On this day in 1953, David Mullany Sr. noticed his son was having a difficult time playing baseball because he was always breaking windows and / or losing the balls on the school roof. So Mr. Mullany took a round-shaped perfume carton, and cut slots into both halves. When he threw the new “ball,” it curved. After some refinements, his amazing new invention would go on to be called the Wiffle Ball.
