A 22-year-old Houston, Texas, man was killed Saturday night in a single-vehicle rollover crash in the construction area of I-57 south of Mt. Vernon.
Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse identified the victim as Jaquan Roberts. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hayse says Roberts remained in the vehicle after it ran up a guardrail and overturned one or two times. He sustained multiple injuries.
Roberts’ girlfriend was a passenger in the car. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
State Police say both southbound lanes were closed at milepost 89, about six miles south of Mt. Vernon for about two hours after the crash occurred at 9:38 Saturday evening.
