Salem Police have released more details on a Saturday night crash on East Main Street in Salem.
Police say they were following a pickup driven by 25-year-old Cody Johnson of East Liberty Road in Mt. Vernon that was driving erratically. As they approached the first driveway into East Lawn Cemetery, Johnson began to pass a car in front of him driven by a 16-year-old Centralia juvenile. The juvenile was signaling to make a left turn into the cemetery and Johnson hit the side of the car.
Both drivers declined hospital treatment, but a passenger in Johnson’s pickup, 18-year-old Lexi Farmer of Xenia, was taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment.
Salem Police say they had just notified dispatch they were going to stop the Johnson vehicle because of his driving, but had not yet activated lights and siren for a traffic stop when the crash occurred.
Johnson was ticketed for reckless driving, muffler violation, speeding, improper lane usage, and passing in a no-passing zone.
The Salem Fire Protection District assisted at the scene, but no entrapment was reported.
The crash occurred at 10:28 Saturday night.
