Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say both drivers were injured in a crash at Levy and Bell Club Roads near Lake Centralia during the noon hour on Thursday.
Initial information indicates a vehicle driven by 78-year-old Nancy Wood of Levy Road in Centralia was traveling southbound on Bell Club Road and made a left turn onto Levy Road in front of an oncoming northbound car on Bell Club Road driven by 45-year-old Bruce Lee of Bob White Lane in Salem. The impact knocked Wood’s vehicle backwards into the ditch, while the Lee vehicle ran into a standing field of corn.
Both drivers were initially taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital by Lifestar Ambulance and then later airlifted to St. Louis hospitals. Reports indicate Wood was complaining of chest pain and Lee appeared to have sustained a head injury.
