The Centralia High School Board of Education met last night and no decision was made yet on the invitation from the Cahokia Conference to join them in the 2026-27 school year.

Centralia will hold a special meeting on Thursday night for more discussion and possibly a decision on if they will make the move out of the South Seven.

The Conference carousel started in earnest with Mascoutah leaving the Mississippi Valley for the Southwestern Conference.  That along with the Cahokia losing Salem after this year and expanding with Waterloo, Jerseyville and Civic Memorial in the following years killed the Mississippi Valley.

Highland left to join the South Seven which now includes Centralia, Cahokia, Mt Vernon, Carbondale and Marion.  However with Centralia’s enrollment dropping from several years ago the board will decide if it makes sense to make the move to the Cahokia to ensure the stability of a football conference.
