The opening weekend for the Marion County Fair begins Friday with exhibit building entries being accepted from noon to six and then again from nine to noon on Saturday.
The Superintendent for the Exhibit Building Amy Telford says they usually receive 700 to 900 entries. She is encouraging both kids and adults to enter.
“We have everything from garden produce to other ag things,” Telford said. “People’s quilts and crafts, paintings and antiques, hobby collections, and it’s for all ages. We have children’s categories and adults as well.”
Judging will be done Saturday afternoon. The exhibit building will then open from six to nine Saturday evening, noon to six on Sunday, ten am to nine pm on Monday, and four to nine pm Tuesday through Friday. Item pickup will be next Saturday morning, August 2nd.
All day 4H shows will take place at the fairgrounds beginning at eight Saturday morning with the swine show and ending at 6:30 pm with the goat show. Motocross is the Saturday night grandstand entertainment. Reserved seats are $18, general admission $15, and pit passes are $25.
Sunday’s activities include the draft horse pull at one in front of the grandstand. General seating is $10. The talent show has been moved to the free stage with no admission. It will begin at 5:30 pm. Murphy 500 with opening from Cody Phillips will be in front of the grandstand at 7:30. All seats are $10.
