The Sandoval Village Board at its meeting this week voted to get tougher on those firing Orbeez and other BB gun weapons. The board also set an earlier curfew for those eight to 16 years old. The goal is to end problems with a group of juveniles.
For those who fire Orbeez and similar guns in the Sandoval Park, they will face a $500 fine, be banned from the park for 12 months, and have their gun confiscated as evidence. The board notes some more serious gun discharges could result in criminal charges.
The revised curfew hours for those 8 to 16 not allowed to be out without a parent is nine pm to six am on weekdays and 10 pm to 6 am on Saturday and Sunday. A curfew violation will carry a $150 fine.
Sandoval is trying to end juvenile problems in the community, and Orbeez being shot in the park, causing those at the park for ballgames to be scared. Because Junction City is having issues with the same group of juveniles, they plan to pass the same two ordinance charges as Sandoval. Board members note police and the state’s attorney are working with them on the crackdown.
The board is exploring the extension of the tax increment financing district for another 12 years. School Superintendent Matt Danamon has been sent a letter to see if the school board would support the extension. All taxing bodies have to sign off on the extension.
Kathy Parson, with assistance from her husband Chad, has been named cemetery director. They will be paid $450 a month.
The board set Trick or Treat for Friday night, October 24th. A vendor fair will be planned along with the traditional Sandoval Grade School Halloween Parade. The High School Homecoming candidates will also participate.
Sandoval officials will review the 29 parcels of property the village has acquired when tearing down substandard homes. They like to get the parcels sold to new owners. The board also wants to update courthouse records so they are not paying taxes on some of the property.
