Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps reports all three people who tried to flee a burglary in progress at a home on Bernard Road in rural Centralia have now been arrested.
Those taken into custody are 43-year-old Cory Duncan of South Hickory in Centralia, 44-year-old Joseph Anderson of West Noleman in Centralia, and 59-year-old Jerry Correll of Centralia.
Cripps says the caretaker of the property called 911 when seeing suspects wearing masks while on the property that he could observe via photo and video surveillance. He stayed on the phone and provided updates as he blocked the driveway with his vehicle in an attempt to keep the suspects on the property.
The suspects were able to flee by driving the vehicle through shrubbery to get to the Bernard Road. The caretaker followed them as they fled southbound on Myers Road to Walnut Hill Road, onto Buchannan Road into Jefferson County. Deputies eventually made contact with the vehicle.
Duncan and Anderson remained in the vehicle and were taken into custody Thursday afternoon. Correll, who left the truck prior to the deputy’s arrival, turned himself in to the sheriff Friday after receiving multiple messages he was wanted after the information was released by the sheriff’s department.
Cripps says items that were thrown out of the truck as it was being followed by the caretaker were collected along the route. They included a leaf blower and paint cans. A search warrant was executed on the truck Friday, and other stolen items were allegedly found in the pickup truck along with the masks.
Cripps says the Marion County Sheriff’s Office would like to make sure all criminals know, our citizens and the sheriff’s office dislike thieves a lot, we will work together to protect the property of our citizens and charge those who choose to do this type of activity.
