A 22-year-old Salem man was charged in Marion County Court with aggravated battery after becoming angry at a man who yelled at him to get his clothes on after exiting the Salem Reservoir, where he was allegedly swimming nude.
Matthew Burton of East Bryan is accused of picking up the man and slamming him to the ground after putting on his clothes. The alleged victim was then able to punch back, sending Burton to the hospital for treatment of a facial injury before he was taken to the Marion County Jail.
Police and Fire had already been called to the scene when a person in the area thought Burton had gone under. He later swam to shore without incident, where the altercation took place near the boat docks.
Burton was released on pre-trial conditions and is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on August 12th.
