Two Centralia residents will face felony charges of aggravated cruelty to an animal in connection with the shooting death of a dog on July 8th.

Jacob Linkon of West 17th was taken to the Marion County Jail following his arrest on the cruelty charge as well as an unrelated charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Centralia Police found the deceased dog wrapped in a rug outside Linkon’s home where they had gone to question him about the firearm charge. In that case, Linkon is accused of discharging a firearm on July third while standing in a yard near 16th and Hickory. One of the shots reportedly passed through the front driver side window of a vehicle parked in the Arizona Joe’s Bar endangering those in the area of the gunfire.

Upon questioning, Linkon told police he had shot the dog in the head at the request of its owner, 38-year-old Marilyn Owens of South Cherry Street, because the dog was sick. Owens was released on a notice to appear on the animal cruelty charge and has not yet appeared in court.

Prosecutors sought to detain Linkon without bond on the charges, but Judge Mark Stedelin instead released Linkon on pre-trial conditions. A public defender was appointed to represent him with a preliminary hearing set for August 26th.
