Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard says both drivers were injured in a two-vehicle head-on crash on Illinois Route 15 a half mile east of North Dartmouth Lane, just east of Mt. Vernon, late Wednesday morning.
An SUV driven by 78-year-old Gwendolyn Thomason of Keene was traveling eastbound when she drifted into the westbound lane and struck head-on a roll-off truck driven by 35-year-old Taylor Bruce of Mt. Vernon. Thompson’s vehicle continued in a northeast direction down an embankment and overturned several times before coming to rest on its wheels. Jefferson Fire Officials say emergency personnel and those on the scene assisted in getting a door open on Thomason’s car and carrying her up the embankment to an ambulance. Bruce’s truck overturned once and came to rest on its wheels.
Both drivers were transported to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
